Hesketh Learning Resource Centre

There are over 16,000 resources in the HLRC comprising of books, magazines, newspapers, story cassettes, videos and DVDs. In addition, the HLRC has eleven computers, networked and with internet access. These are supplemented by 15 computers from the adjoining room C4 at break, lunchtime and after school.
Members of staff were delighted when the HLRC was awarded ‘Best Secondary School Library in Northamptonshire 2006/07’. This award recognised the diversity of the resources available and the breadth of activities on offer.
In June 2009, Mrs Varley, Head of the HLRC, became one of four school librarians in the country to be entered onto the Honours List of the School Librarian of the Year Award.
OFSTED in January 2010 called it a 'first-class learning resource centre'.
The HLRC supports individual students and teachers by providing resources on a wide range of topics from atoms to zabaglione. These may be used for class projects in lessons or for coursework and personal study. Current magazines and newspapers are available to give up to date news, views and information across a range of subjects and interests.
Year 7 students have fortnightly Library lessons throughout their first year. Other year groups receive Information Skills lessons on a variety of different subjects.
Several key events take place each year in the HLRC and students’ work from all departments is displayed on a regular basis. Events include Book Week with visiting authors and lunchtime readings, Kids Lit Quiz, National Poetry Dayand the Carnegie Book Award Shadowing Project. Displays have given insights into learning experiences as varied as a robotics project and artwork, to events such as Sports’ Day, residential trips and work from the Primary Schools as part of the Year 6 transition.
